Wood has a very rough surface but it can be easily turned into a smooth surface by polishing it. The rustic surface of wood is perfect for bringing out the vibrancy of colours. Wood painting has been an art form since the time man didn’t know how to write. During those times, natural dyes, berry juices and flower paste were used. The rustic surface of wood adds amazing texture to the elements painted.

To make this art form popular, The Circle Community conducted a workshop on Reclaimed Wood Painting with expert artist Devanshi Damani Shah.

About The Artist

Devanshi is a textile engineer by profession. Additionally, she has completed her Diploma in Art from J.J. School of Arts. She is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer who has won many prizes in Mumbai. As a professional, she is an art occupational therapist with an experience of 27 years. She has taught more than 5000 students.

The Workshop Began

Devanshi gave a brief introduction about how wood filler seals the cracks in the wood piece ensuring a smooth surface. She started painting the picture already sketched on the wood, with goldish yellow which gave it a significant sheen. Further, she started painting the second layer with warm shades. She beautifully explained the blend for painting a house followed by the texture of trees and branches.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

She showed her 4 feet Lippan Art which even had a Kutchhi portrait of a lady. At the end, she specifically pointed out about applying primer on the wooden art. All the attendees enjoyed the unique art of painting on the wood.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
