Quilling is the technique of using paper strips that are rolled into a coil and shaped to create art. Paper quilling is a relaxing art form that doesn’t require much material or complication to create. There are several decorative articles like jewellery that can be created with this art. To learn more about this craft, The Circle community conducted a workshop with Mayank Singh.
About The Artist
Mayank is a 19-year-old artist based in Bhopal. He loves to express himself through various creative arts like painting, poetry, music, cooking, sports and much more. He started his artistic journey during the lockdown. He began with acrylic painting and many people in his circle appreciated his amazing work, and since then he has explored a lot with different mediums.
The Workshop Began
Mayank got interested in quilling due to the variety of items that can be created through it. He believes it to be both cost-effective and beautiful at the same time. Along with quilling paper, he suggested using the tool for quilling that helps it give a batter finishing and shape.
He decided to make a multi-colour jhumka with orange, blue, yellow, and pink paper stripes. Using two of each colour, he quilled it into a circular shape and pushed out its centre to create a jhumka shape. He added glue on the inside and outside and spread it evenly.
Another piece of jewellery he made for the session was a flower-shaped necklace. For this, he quilled the stripes into a circle and pinched one of its ends to give it a teardrop effect. This way he designed the petals and stuck them to a bud.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
Mayank suggested they add elements like beads or a tassel to give the jewellery an authentic look. He also showed them variations of different designs created by him previously. Everyone was delighted to make colourful jewellery sets for themselves and appreciated his support in the creative process.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
