Paper quilling is the art of rolling papers into a coil and making a variety of designs with it. It is fun and serene to create. There are limitless possibilities when it comes to curating patterns and structures with quilling. To learn the basics of this art, The Circle community conducted a workshop with Ramapriya Jayaraman.

About The Artist

Ramapriya has learned the art of quilling by herself with the help of her sister. She has done it professionally on a large scale. She has wired on making amazing jewellery, decorations, and much more with paper.

The Workshop Began

Ramapriya gave a brief idea about the use and techniques of paper quilling by displaying some of her previous artworks. She wanted to portray how a single strip of paper can be formed into different shapes and a variety of products. But for the session, she wanted to focus on the basics of quilling.

She began with the initial coiling method and showed some different shapes that could be formed through shaping the coils. She pinched one of the ends to make shapes like a teardrop, marquise and other geometric shapes like a square, triangle and much more. Although they looked delicate, she assured everyone that once they are secured with glue they will form a strong and sturdy shape. To make it durable she advised protecting them with a layer of glazing.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Everyone was amazed to see the art collection created by Ramapriya. From small figurines, candleholders to wall hangings, there were distinct art pieces curated by her. After learning the basic techniques, the attendees were inspired to create their own designs.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
