“Art is nothing but an imitation of nature”. All around us, art is hidden behind a cover of randomness and we just have to look carefully for what we seek. Diving into nature in search of art is a great way to learn about the nature of art. One such art is creating designs and models from a tiny matchbox. Yes, it’s true, a tiny matchbox indeed! This is the beauty of art, it can transform even a tiny matchbox into a piece of beauty and love.
In the quest to assist our circle family to acquire a similar experience, TCC organized a stupendous and inspiring session with artist Shalini Rai.
About The Artist
Shalini Rai, an expert matchbox artist, and an event manager by profession, joined us for the session. She loves to create designs and models out of matchboxes with each of them having its own stories. She now runs her venture named ‘The Matchbox Stories’ where she markets a wide range of gifts, souvenirs, and decoratives, all designed with matchboxes. She started her journey in 2019 out of her love for the art and now has a blooming venture of her own.
And The Workshop Began
The workshop began with Shalini greeting and expressing her heartfelt gratitude to the attendees. She then gave a glimpse into her work at The MatchBox Stories, where the attendees got to have deeper insights into the world of miniature art. Moving ahead, she gave an introduction about some basic but important steps that she always takes while creating a matchbox gift, including sketching the idea, designing, and eventually giving a shape to the idea.
She then listed out all the materials required and why specifically they’ve been selected. She also shed some light on the importance of measurements in the process of making a matchbox art piece. The session was energetic and not to mention the interaction between the artist and the attendees was amazing. She explained every step in a very detailed way that made the attendees delighted towards the completion of the session.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
As the workshop progressed towards its end, the attendees were quite satisfied and gleeful as they were able to gain knowledge and learn about the world of miniature art, and how miniature arts help one to create stories out of petty things such as a matchbox.
Shalini took the participants through her other art pieces including wedding cards that she designed with matchboxes, which was quite inspiring for the attendees.
At last, all the attendees were able to co-create beautiful matchbox art pieces and expressed their gratitude to the artist and the host of the session.
The attendees were from different parts of the country and various age groups, but these weren’t a barrier for them as their love for art brought them together. TCC, as always, was successful in bringing together artists and creating memories to be cherished for a lifetime.
On this note, here’s us signing off until next time.
