Macrame is an old art form that involves the knotting technique in contrast to weaving or knitting. This art form finds its origins in the Babylonian regions, which became popular in different parts of the world with time. The sailors, when not busy during their time in the seas, used to create Macrame art and bartered it when they would land on foreign lands, thus introducing it to China and other countries. From the Victorian era, Macrame became popular but its charm gradually began fading. It was in the ‘70s American culture that Macrame regained its status and slowly became a household name.

Nowadays, Macrame is famous among artists as they are looking to extend its usage.

To make the Circle family aware about the art of creating self-made jewellery from Macrame art, TCC curated a special workshop and invited expert artist Preethi Muthu to facilitate the session.

About The Artist

Preethi Muthu is a self-taught artist who is very passionate about arts and holds a deep interest in learning and creating old and traditional crafting techniques. She started her own Instagram page out of her undying love and passion for art and craft.

The Workshop Began

The workshop began with a brief introduction to Preethi and her journey as an artist. In return, Preethi greeted and expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the attendees and the hosts of the session. She then gave an insight into the historical journey and significance of the Macrame art form and began making the artwork. She listed out all the important materials used in the process and laid emphasis on some basic techniques of creating the art form like dimensions and measures of the components. She made sure the session remains engaging by encouraging the attendees to ask doubts whenever encountered. The attendees were engrossed in the process as they were co-creating with her. A learning environment was created and the workshop became more intriguing.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

As the workshop progressed towards completion, the attendees were very delighted and happy as they created their artworks which they showcased to Preethi for her feedback. Preethi found them very beautiful and full of effort and praised all the attendees for their dedication. Towards the end, Preethi received compliments from the attendees who appreciated her teaching and easy demonstrating techniques.

The attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to various age groups but their passion for arts brought them together on one platform. TCC, as always, was successful in curating an amazing workshop as well as creating memories that can be cherished for a long time.
